7 Forms of Wealth That Have Nothing to Do With Money

7 Forms of Wealth That Have Nothing to Do With Money

By Holly Morphew Financial Impact

What does wealth really mean? Most of us have been conditioned to answer that question with a number — a salary, a savings account balance, a net worth. But what if the truest definition of wealth has nothing to do with money at all?

In 2023, I hosted a podcast called The Wealth Trifecta, where I set out to talk about wealth building. What emerged instead was something far richer: deep conversations with healers, academics, influencers, teachers, authors, and trailblazers I met while traveling the world for seven years.

I asked every guest the same question: “What does wealth mean to you?”

Not one of them mentioned money.

Their answers spanned time, love, adventure, faith, and freedom — and when I stepped back and looked at all of them together, seven clear themes emerged. These aren’t abstract ideals. They are forms of wealth you may already be living — right now, today.

Why Redefining Wealth Matters for Your Financial Life

Before we dive in, here’s why this conversation belongs on a personal finance blog: how you feel about wealth determines how much of it you attract.

This is the law of vibration at work. The more you can genuinely feel wealthy — not just think it, but feel it — the more you align yourself with abundance. Gratitude and awareness of what you already have aren’t just feel-good practices. They are the foundation from which financial wealth is built.

If you’re constantly focused on what’s missing, you’ll always feel behind. But when you recognize the wealth already present in your life, you shift your energy, your decisions, and ultimately your outcomes.

So let’s look at what you may already have — and learn to see it clearly.

The 7 Forms of True Wealth

1. Belief

Many of the people I interviewed described wealth as a deep inner knowing — a sense of being supported by something greater than themselves. Call it God, intuition, the universe, life force energy, or your inner voice. The name doesn’t matter. The feeling does.

Belief makes life’s challenges feel less like crises and more like chapters. With it, you don’t just have wealth — you arewealth. It’s not something you do; it’s something you naturally embody.

This is the law of vibration in action: believe it before you see it. Feel that reality before it emerges. Building belief takes practice, and one of the most powerful ways to cultivate it is by surrounding yourself with people who share a positive, expansive outlook on life.

Ask yourself: What do I already believe is possible for my life?

2. Time Freedom

This was the most common answer across all my guests — and I couldn’t agree more.

Getting to choose when to stay, when to go, when to grind, and when to flow — that is a glorious thing.

My dad worked from age 10 (delivering newspapers) to age 67 (running franchises, six days a week, open to close). Today he is free as a bird. He still works — but on his terms, on his schedule. I’ve never seen him happier.

Many people spend an entire lifetime working toward time freedom. If you have even a measure of it today — the ability to choose how some of your hours are spent — that is wealth worth recognizing.

Ask yourself: Where in my life do I already have freedom with my time?

3. Faith

Faith is different from belief — and many guests named it as the truest form of wealth they know.

Faith means trusting that things are going to be okay, even when you don’t fully understand what’s unfolding. It’s the quiet confidence that life is working for you — even when it doesn’t feel like your preference.

In every moment, we can choose faith or fear. One makes us feel creative and expansive. The other makes us feel small. And as many spiritual traditions remind us: what we think about, we bring about.

Ask yourself: Where in my life am I already choosing faith over fear?

4. Values

From food and travel to adventure, learning, nature, and meaningful experiences, many guests described wealth as the freedom to live in alignment with what matters most to them.

For me, time with loved ones, being in nature, or gathering around a table of home-cooked food — that’s wealth. For someone else, it’s jumping out of a plane or climbing a mountain range.

Variety is the spice of life. Imagine a world full of resourced, supported, thriving humans living in full alignment with their unique values. That world starts with you knowing yours.

Ask yourself: Am I spending time on what I actually value — and do I recognize that time as wealth?

5. Choice

Wealth means having options.

The ability to choose your healthcare providers, your home, your work, your food, your community, your education, your relationships, your environment — this is what it means to live a designed life.

The power of choice is not small. It is everything. And most of us, even in difficult seasons, have more choices available to us than we pause to acknowledge.

Ask yourself: What choices do I have today that I’m taking for granted?

6. Security

Many guests described wealth as the ability to be cared for — financially and physically. Safety is a foundational human need. When the basics are covered, we’re free to ascend Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: into creativity, intimacy, joy, and self-actualization.

Security isn’t the ceiling. It’s the floor that makes everything else possible.

Ask yourself: What do I have in place today — a roof, a relationship, a community — that provides security I may not be fully appreciating?

7. Health

Some say, “Without your health, you have nothing.” I understand the sentiment, but I don’t fully subscribe to it.

I spent seventeen years living with Ulcerative Colitis — some of it so severe I couldn’t walk or leave my home. During those years, I had the opportunity to get deeply clear about what truly matters. Even in my darkest times, I had faith that things would work out, and that my struggle would one day have meaning.

It did.

Did I have “nothing” during those years? Hard no. I had my family, my friends, my heart, my mind, a home, my belief, and my faith. Health challenges can strip many things away — but they rarely take everything.

If you — or someone you love — is struggling, please don’t lose heart. There is light at the end of the tunnel. All things grow in the dark.

Ask yourself: What aspects of my health and vitality do I have right now that I can be grateful for?

The Word Itself

The origin of the word wealth comes from the Old English root “wele” — meaning a state of health, happiness, and good fortune. It was never just about money.

True wealth is the trifecta: health, mindset, and financial means. Together, they create a life fully lived – a wealthy life.

Your Takeaway: You Are Already Wealthy

Here’s an invitation: before you think about building more wealth, take a moment to recognize the wealth you already have.

Look back through the seven pillars above. Belief, time freedom, faith, alignment with your values, the power of choice, security, health — how many of these are already present in your life, even in some form?

This isn’t about bypassing financial goals or pretending everything is perfect. It’s about activating one of the most powerful forces available to you: the feeling of already being wealthy.

This is the law of vibration. What you focus on, you amplify. When you genuinely feel wealthy — when you wake up and recognize the abundance already around you — you shift the energy from which all your financial decisions are made. You attract more of what you’re already in resonance with.

There is a lot of good in this world, even amidst everything else going on. And when we focus on the good, the good grows.

So today, try this:

  1. Take stock. Write down three forms of non-financial wealth you have right now.
  2. Feel it. Don’t just list them — sit with them. Let the gratitude actually land in your body.
  3. Carry it forward. Let that feeling of abundance be the energy from which you take your next financial step.

Wealth begins inside. The numbers follow.
